Real estate protection done right.

With thousands of new residents arriving each month, our province is experiencing a population surge unlike anything we’ve seen in decades. This growth brings opportunity - but also increased demand on our real estate system.

That’s why the Real Estate Council of Alberta (RECA) is stepping up. With recent updates to our regulatory framework, RECA is better equipped than ever to protect consumers and support a stronger, more transparent, and accountable real estate industry.

Now more than ever, Albertans need a real estate system they can trust. RECA is committed to ensuring confidence in every transaction by licensing ethical professionals and protecting consumers from fraud and misconduct. No matter where you’re coming from or what your goals are, RECA is here to help make Alberta’s real estate system work for you.

How Alberta's
Real Estate Regulator
Keeps You
Safe and Sound

As Alberta’s real estate regulator, RECA works hard to ensure the industry operates with integrity, transparency, and trust.

Here’s how we can help:

Licensing Trusted Professionals

Only qualified, ethical professionals are licensed to work in Alberta’s real estate, mortgage, condo, and property management sectors.

All licensees must meet education standards and carry errors and omissions insurance to protect consumers against unintentional loss due to mistakes or negligence.

Investigating
Scams & Fraud

RECA is here to take action against scams, fraud, and unethical behaviour – helping protect you from predatory practices.

We investigate complaints and have the authority to discipline, fine, and suspend licensees who breach industry standards.

Enforcing
Strong Rules

With updated standards and enforcement tools, RECA helps ensure real estate professionals follow the rules, every time. We set and enforce standards of conduct to promote the integrity and confidence of the industry.

Educating & Empowering Consumers

From first-time buyers to experienced investors, RECA provides Albertans with resources to help make informed real estate decisions. Our comprehensive website offers information about licensees and what you should expect when working with them.

Administering the Consumer Protection Fund

RECA administers a Consumer Protection Fund, which compensates consumers who have been victims of fraud, breach of trust, or a failure to disburse or account for money held in trust by a licensee in connection with a trade in real estate or a deal in mortgages.
